January 3, 1959 newspaper:
Leon Whitman, 41, a Hamilton County sheriff's deputy, and assistant caretaker and forester for the International Paper Co., at Hamilton Mountain Lodie, died Friday in the Veterans Hospital, Albany. He had been a patient there since August when he underwent a major operation.
Mr. Whitman was born in Wells, Nov. 9, 1916. He attended the Wells Central School and had always resided in the Wells area. He served with Co. D, 305 Infantry during World War II.
Surviving are his wife, the former Josephine Morrison; a daughter, Bethany; and his parents, Mr. And Mrs. Allen Whitman, all of Lake Pleasant; three sisters; Miss Leona Whitman, Utica; Mrs. Garvin Burke, Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.; and Mrs. Charles Phillips, Lake Pleasant; one niece and one nephew. Funeral services were held from the Lake Pleasant Methodist Church. Interment in South Shore Cemetery, Lake Pleasant.January 3, 1959 newspaper:
George J. Kibler, 68, died Jan. 2, 1959 while at work with the New York State Highway Department. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Born March 4, 1889 in Wells, the son of the late Jacob and Minnie Simons Kibler. He had been a resident of the county all his life. For a number of years he served as postmaster in Town of Lake Pleasant. He had been a member of the Board of Assessors of the Town of Wells, for some time.
Survivors included his wife, Alice Orr Kibler; two daughters, Mrs. Sandford Bradt and Miss Marjorie Kibler, both of Wells; one son, George, Jr. Wells; six sisters, Mrs. Frank Hanley, Wells; Mrs. Allen Whitman, LP; Mrs. Echtor Fountain, Broadalbin; Mrs. Lester Race, Broadalbin; Mrs. Oakley Stuart, Hadley; Mrs. Fred Weaver, Wells; four brothers, Elwin, Broadalbin; Raymond, Canajorie; Cardin, Binghamton; Clarence, Wells; one granddaughter; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral held Jan 5 from Methodist Church with Rev Myron Chaney. Burial in Wells Cemetery. Bearers were fellow employees including Roy Buyce, Gerald Schuyler, James Craig, Sr.; George R. Babcock; Stephen, Ryan and Leon Conway.
