The first school in what is now the town of Morehouse was begun in 1834 as Lake Pleasant District #6 School (see list of students, below).  The town of Morehouse was created in 1835 from lands of the Town of Lake Pleasant.

Morehouse School District # 1 was established by 1839.  This schoolhouse is now a private home.  It is located at the corner of Fayle Road on route 8.

Morehouse School District #2 was also established in 1839.  This schoolhouse is now the Hoffmeister Post Office.  It is located at the more easterly corner of French Road on route 8 (French road loops back to route 8, thus intersecting it twice).

Morehouse School District #3 was established in 1843. It was located on Mountain Home Road.  In 1894 the school site was moved to land sold by Joel Lane for this purpose.  The new site was situated in lot 17 of the Maxell Tract on the south side of the highway from route 8 to Mountain Home (along Mountain Home Road).  This schoolhouse is now a garage.

By 1953 the school district was consolidated and all students were bussed to Poland, Herkimer co., as the one room schoolhouse was no longer desirable for modern education.  In 1958, NYS allowed the old one room school houses in Morehouse to be sold for other purposes.
