BARTON, HENRY A: age 22 yrs., enlisted Nov. 15, 1861 at Lake Pleasant; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. BOQUEW, LEWIS: age 18, enlisted Nov. 20, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; promoted corporal Jan 1, 1864; re-enlisted as veteran Feb. 14, 1864; mustered out July 18, 1865, at Balls Cross Roads, Va. As Boquin; also borne as Bourquin.

BURTON, NICHOLAS: age 21 yrs., enlisted Oct. 19, 1861 at Annetta; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; wounded in action, no date; died of wounds Nov. 4, 1862 at hospital, Washington, D.C. *(Arietta).

BROWN, OLIVER P.: age 21 yrs., enlisted Oct. 3, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs, private, Co. F; promoted corporal and transferred to Second US Artillery, no dates.

COURTNEY, FRANCIS: age 28 yrs., enlisted Nov. 15, 1861 at Lake Pleasant; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; captured, no date; died of disease, August 23, 1864 at Andersonville, Ga. *(Boonville).

COWLES, JAMES E: age 18 yrs., enlisted at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; deserted Mar. 3, 1862 at Ft. Cocoran, Va. [however, in the record of the 115th he re-enlisted in the service in this company on 9 Aug 1862 and was killed in action 3 Jun 1864 - see the information toward the bottom of this page]

CRAFTS, ELIAS B: age 18 yrs., enlisted at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. E; no further record. *(listed age is 26).

CRAMER, WILLIAM: age 44 yrs., enlisted Nov. 7, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; deserted Nov. 21, 1862 from hospital at Baltimore, Md.

CRIBS, ALFRED: age 21 yrs., enlisted Nov. 19, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; died of disease, Jan 7, 1862, while on furlough, at Morehouseville, N.Y.

CUE, EDWARD: age 18 yrs., enlisted Sept. 24, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; wounded in action at Antietam, Md.; dschd for disability, April 15, 1863. *(right thigh amputated at Antietam).

FISHER, ORREN E: age 21 yrs., enlisted Oct. 4, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; promoted corporal, Nov. 1, 1863; re-enlisted as a veteran, Jan. 4, 1864; killed in action, May 6, 1864 at the Wilderness, Va.

FISHER, WILLIAM H: age 24 yrs., enlisted at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; wounded in action July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pa.; promoted corporal Nov. 1, 1863; re-enlisted as Veteran, Jan. 1, 1864; wounded in action May 6, 1864 at Wilderness, Va.; died of wounds May 15, 1864 at Fredericksburg, Va. *(age 29, died May 17, 1864 ).

FLINT, STEVEN: age 38 yrs., enlisted Oct. 3, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; dschd for disability, Feb. 5, 1863. *(Brockett's Bridge).

GALLOP, HIRAM: age 21, enlisted Oct. 21, 1861 at Annetta; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; wounded in action Aug. 30, 1862 at Bulls Run, Va.; died of wounds, Sept. 3, 1862, at Division hospital. *(Arietta).

GREENFIELD, DANIEL: age 21 yrs., enlisted Oct. 3, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; deserted March 1862 at Boonville, N.Y. *(Boonville).

HART, WILLIAM: age 19, enlisted at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. E; captured in action, July 1, 1863 at Gettysburg, Pa.; paroled, no date, re-enlisted as Veteran Jan 1, 1864; promoted corporal Jan. 20, 1864; killed in action Aug. 18, 1864 at Weldon Railroad, Va.

HAYES, MILO: age 23 yrs., enlisted Oct. 1, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. D; transferred to Veteran Reserve Corp, Sept. 23, 1863. *(Hays, Milo, G.).

HOLMES, ROSEAMBERT: age 21 yrs., enlisted Oct. 21, 1861 at Annetta; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; wounded in action May 10, 1864 at Laurel Hill, Va.; dschd for wounds Aug. 3, 1864 at Carver hospital, Washington, D.C. *(Arietta - died of wounds, Aug. 3, 1864 at Carver Hosp.).

HUTCHINSON, SYLVESTER: age 34 yrs., enlisted Nov. 1, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; dschd for disability April 17, 1863.

JUBIN, ANDREW: age 21 yrs., enlisted Nov. 7, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; dschd for disability, Aug. 14, 1862 at Fairfax Seminary Hospital, Alexandria, Va.

KELLER, MENZO: age 25 yrs., enlisted Nov. 19, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; wounded in action at Gettysburg, Pa.; transferred to Veteran Reserve Corp March 16, 1864; also borne as Annenzo. *(wounded at Antietam).

KOCH, JOHN: age 37 yrs., enrolled Nov. 19, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., as corporal, Co. G; promoted sgt. April 1863; captured in action at Gettysburg July 1, 1863; paroled, August 1863; mustered in as 2nd Lt., Co. G, Nov. 29, 1863; killed in action, June 5, 1864 at Bethesda Church, Va.

KRIBBS, JOHN: age 23 yrs, enlisted Oct. 7, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. E; dschd for disability, no date. *(Krebbs).

MAJOR, GEORGE: age 21 yrs., enlisted Aug. 20, 1863 at Kiantone, to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; captured in action, May 6, 1864 at Wilderness, Va.; paroled April 1865; mustered out with detachment, June 11, 1865 near Washington, D. C. *(Kingston as substitute).

MORRELL, ISAAC: age 21 yrs., enlisted Sept. 24, 1861 at N. Dansville, Vt.; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; deserted, no date, on the march; also borne as Isaac A. Morrill. *(Wells).

PRATT, NATHANIEL: age 39 yrs., enlisted at Houseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. C; transferred to Co. K, Feb. 1, 1862; dschd for disability, March 16, 1863 at Bell Plains, Va.; as Nathan.

REMONDA, THEODORE C: age 19 yrs., enlisted Oct. 12, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. E; re-enlisted as veteran and promoted corporal Jan. 4, 1864; ret'd to ranks, no date; promoted corporal May 1, 1864; sgt., Dec. 1, 1864; mustered out July 18, 1865 near Washington, D.C.

RICKARD, GIDEON: age 44, enlisted Nov. 20, 1861 at Morehouseville; private, Co. G; dschd Dec. 15, 1864 as Rickett.

ROURKE, JAMES: age 19 yrs., enlisted Oct. 21, 1864 at Annetta; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; wounded in action, August 30, 1862 at Bulls Run, Va.; dschd for disability June 12, 1863 at hospital, Washington, D.C. *(Arietta).

RUSSELL, CORNELIUS: age 25 yrs., enlisted Oct. 3, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., sgt., Co. F; dschd for disability, Nov. 28, 1862. *(Cornelius H.).

SCHUYLER, WILLIAM H: age 21 yrs., enlisted Oct. 3, 1861 at Lake Pleasant; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; re-enlisted as veteran, Feb. 10, 1864; promoted corporal; sgt., May 31, 1865; mustered out July 18, 1865 near Balls Cross Roads, Va.

SIMONS, PETER: age 25 yrs., enlisted Oct. 3, 1861 at Wells; to serve 3 yrs., corporal, Co. F; dschd for disability, Dec. 21, 1862. *(Boonville - wounded in neck at S. Mountain)

STREATOR, HENRY: age 21 yrs., enlisted at Annetta; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; deserted June 12, 1862 at Front Royal, Va. As Streeter. *(Arietta).

SUTHERLAND, JAMES: age 21 yrs., enlisted at Wells, Oct. 1, 1861; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; promoted corporal Nov. 1, 1863; re-enlisted as veteran, Jan 1, 1864; wounded in action May 5, 1864 at Wilderness; ret'd to ranks, April 12, 1865; again promoted May 15, 1865; mustered out July 18, 1865 near Balls Cross Roads, Va.

THOMPSON, W. H.: age 43 yrs., enlisted at Wellsville; to serve 4 yrs., private, Co. K; dschd as disability Oct. 20, 1864 as Thomson. *(William M.)

WAGER, LEVI A: age 22 yrs., enlisted Oct. 6, 1861 at Wellsville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. F; dschd for disability Aug. 11, 1862. *(Wells).

WHITE, MICHAEL: age 29 yrs., enlisted Oct. 6, 1861 at Wellsville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. I; died of disease, Aug. 1862, as Mitchel White. *(died Aug. 27, 1863).

WINCHELL, HAVILAH: age 42 yrs., enlisted at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs.; and mustered in as wagoner, Co. F, Nov. 26, 1861; mustered out Nov. 26, 1864; also borne as Havilla.

WINNEN, ANTON: age 30 yrs., enlisted at Wellsville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. H; captured in action, Aug. 19, 1864 at Weldon Railroad, Va.; died Jan. 2, 1865 in Rebel prison. *(Wimer, Anton - substitute).

WOOSTER, ADAM: age 26 yrs., enlisted Nov. 24, 1861 at Morehouseville; to serve 3 yrs., private, Co. G; promoted corporal, Jan. 1864; sgt. July 1, 1864; dschd Nov. 25, 1864.

This is an alphabetical listing of soldiers for the 97th from Charles Shaw who used the sources below to compile service records for many Hamilton county Civil War veterans.  These soldiers had either enlisted or resided at some time within the county.  From these sources it is unknown which of these men were residents of the county at the time of enlistment (although those who enlisted within Hamilton county were likely from the county).

Please note that information from the 1890 census records, now online, is not part of this compilation!  Look for the 1890 census records on our Military Page.
