Stanley Savarie Discharged

S/Sgt. Stanley Savarie received his medical discharge on March 29 from Halloran General hospital where he has been a patient since last August.

Sgt. Savarie was inducted with the third draft contingent from this country in April of 1941 and sent to Fort Jackson to train with the 28th Division of the 8th Division. He also trained at Ft. Leonard Wood, Camp Forrest and the Desert Maneuver Area in Arizona and California. He went overseas in December 1943 to north Ireland where he was stationed until being sent to combat in July of 1944. In December 1944 Sgt. Savarie was wounded in Germany. He arrived in the States on April 1945 and was sent to Rhodes Hospital in Utica for 4 months then sent to Halloran hospital for nerve treatment.

Ribbons received by Savarie are World War II Victory Ribbon, Purple Heart, American Theatre Ribbon, Combat Infantry Badge, European African Middle East Campaign Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, American Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Ribbon. Due to his physical condition Stanley has no immediate plans for the future.

Stanley was born on 25 Apr 1918, a son of Henry Richard and Ida Burgey Savarie.
He died on 3 Sep 1999 and is buried in Pine Ridge cemetery, Lake Placid, NY.
He married Myrabell Donohue in 1948.
