1820 Federal Census - Lake Pleasant

First Census after Provisional Formation of the County

This transcription has been performed using copies of the original microfilm record!  Due to this and the fact that old style handwriting can be difficult to read, and 'human error', original microfilm records should be consulted by you, the researcher, to verify spelling and accuracy!  The microfilms can be rented through the LDS / FHC near you, or found at the New York State Public Library in Albany, or possibly at other local libraries with large genealogical collections.

Notes from Mary Maynard Slack:

1820 Census, Amsterdam, Montgomery County, NY

Slack, Esther 1 female under 10
1 female 16-26
1 female 26-45
Esther a widow
Esther Slack of Amsterdam, Montgomery Co. was the mother of Nathan Slack, Barbara Lowden, Eliza Fountain and possibly Jane Ann Page of Lake Pleasant.

Ephraim Page (12th in list) was probably the father of:

  • Henry (21st in list) who married Mary Falls/Fauls grandaughter of Benajah Slack
  • Ephraim B who was probably the father of Amos Page who married Jane Ann Slack
  • Abigail who never married, born 1803, a deaf and dumb person who was a charge of the town after her parents death
  • Hattie who married Henry Vanderhoof
Henry Page (21st in list) married Mary Fall/Fauls, grandaughter of Benajah Slack of Amsterdam.  Henry was born about 1798 and Mary about 1791--they would have been 22 and 29 and were probably the male 16-26 and female 26-45.  I don't know who the female 10-16 was, maybe a sister.

Calvin Rich (19th in list) and Arad Rich (18th in list) were sons on Joshua Rich.  The home of Joshua Rich (17th in list) contained two males and two females over the age of 45--these were probably Joshua and Anna Livermore Rich (the parents of Clavin and Arad) and Joshua's parents Joshua and Abigail Barton Rich.
