I have this back to Captain John Kathan and would be glad to share with anyone - Marcia
Generation No. 1
1. RENSSELAER (RANSLOW) S. KATHAN (CHARLESA, DANIELB, JOHNC) was born July 7, 1807 in Dummerston, VT., and died 1890 in Conklinville, NY. He married SARAH THAYER April 26, 1830, daughter of ISAAC N. THAYER.
Came in 1822 to Hadley, then moved to Day (adjoining hamlet). His grave and his wife's grave were moved from Christian Church of Conklinville when they built Conklinville damn and flooded the valley.
Settled on a farm near Conklinville which he occupied for sixty-eight years. In connection with his farm work, he ran a sawmill for many years.
Children of RENSSELAER KATHAN and SARAH THAYER are:
2. i. ADELINE (SARAH) KATHAN, b. November 28, 1839, Town of Day, Saratoga Co., NY; d. October 7, 1923, Willard Cem., Hope, Hamilton Co., NY. ii. ELIZABETH JERUSHA (JERUSHA) KATHAN, b. January 2, 1842, Day, Saratoga Co., NY; d. April 13, 1922, Hope, Hamilton Co. NY. She never married. She was a school teacher. 3. iii. JOHN ANDREW KATHAN, b. July 24, 1838, Town of Day, Saratoga Co., NY. iv. HENRY CLAY KATHAN, b. February 26, 1848; m. UNKNOW CLUTE. 4. v. ISAAC DAVID KATHAN, b. November 13, 1835; d. May 29, 1916, age 81 yrs., 6 mo., 16 days. buried in Northville, NY; m. DANFORTH ALLEN CARPENTER. According to "History of Capt. John Kathan" she was married to Randolph Carpenter. However, author David Mansfield has some of these Kathan's mixed up. Because he also has Adeline born 1845 married to Allen Carpenter. Adeline was born 1839 and married to Caleb Carpenter. So I have listed Diane as married to "Unknown" Carpenter until I find her gravesite and am positive about the name of her spouse."History of Saratoga" has her married to Danford Carpenter. "Memorial of the Thayer Name from the Massachusetts Colony of Weymouth and Braintree, etc." has her listed as married to Melvin Wait Feb 1859. I think she was married twice: Danford Carpenter, Melvin Wait.
viii. LIBBIE KATHAN, b. 1850. She remained unmarried. ix. MYRA (ALIRA) ANN KATHAN, b. July 11, 1845. "Memorial of the Thayer Name from Mass. Colony of Weymouth, etc." lists this daughter as Alira Ann, born Jul 1845. Census lists same child, same birth date as Mary Ann
x. RANSLOW S. KATHAN, b. September 23, 1832; d. May 16, 1837. xi. SUSAN KATHAN, b. September 16, 1837; d. March 1, 1838.
