Descendants of John Groff of Hope

Generation No. 1

1.  JOHN GROFF was born 1762, and died December 5, 1846 in Hope, Hamilton Co. NY.  He married UNKNOWN.

Notes:

Gideon and Jeremiah Olmstead from Massachusetts were first to settle north of present day Northville along the Sacandaga River in what was later to be known as Hope Valley. Issachar Robinson, Peter Wager, Asa Deville, Jacob Houck, John Groff and Lisha Wright settled about 1791-1792 near the later, Hope Center.

From "New York in Revolution" , Office of State Comptroller page 368:
Graff (Groff), John died Dec 5, 1846 age of 84 years, 8 months and 1 day. Buried in Hope Valley, Hamilton Co., NY Served in the Albany County Militia  in the 14th Regiment under Col. John Knickerbocker and Col. Peter Yates. He is also listed as having "land bounty rights" under this same militia (page 126).

We are searching for other children born to John and his wife (had more in the census of 1800). Also, he may be a son of Jacob Graff/Groff of Montgomery Co., NY., and if so would be a nephew to Christian Groff of that county. Any help in finding that connection would be greatly apprecated!
