Misc. Family Bios. of Benson

Compiled by Lisa Slaski (not related to these families)

These are NOT intended to be a complete genealogies, but rather some genealogical gleanings from known sources, including information already online on this site.

Cramer [Kramer]

1. John Cramer was born about 1827. He married Wilhelmine Miller ("Minnie") who was born Jan 1826. They had the following children:

1.1. Margaret Cramer was born about 1850 in Germany.
1.2. John Cramer was born Apr 1853 in Germany. He married about 1873 to Augusta who was born May 1855 in NY and had children: Maggie (b. Nov 1872), Frank (b. Jun 1874), Minnie (b. May 1878).
1.3. Eliza Cramer ("Louise") was born Apr 1856 in NY and was married about 1876 to Nathaniel Barlow and had children: Louis (b. Apr 1877), Hattie (b. Mar 1882) and Frank (b. Jan 1889). - was Louis her son? There is some confusion in the records as the 1880 census indicates that she was widowed with the last name of Greenfield and Nathan Barlow is listed as single. Louis Barlow is listed as a grandson of John's. But the 1900 census states that Nathan and Eliza had been married for 24 years.
1.4. Mary Cramer was born Feb 1860 in NY.
1.5. George L. Cramer was born about 1863 in NY, died 16 Sep 1882 and is buried in Upper Benson cemetery.
1.6. Elisabeth Cramer ("Lizzie") was born about 1868 in NY.
1.7. Amelia Cramer was born about 1870 in NY.

They immigrated in 1854 arriving in NYC on 11 Jan 1854 on the ship Susan E. Howell from Le Havre, France. The listing is as follows:

Kramer, Johann, 26
Kramer, Wilhelmine, 27
Kramer, Marguarite, 4
Kramer, Johann, 6 months

It is interesting to note that they are listed on the ship manifest directly after the Politsch family of Benson.

Politsch

1. Lodwich/Ludwig Politsch was born 8 Sep 1827 in Hessen, Germany and died 22 Mar 1906. He is buried in Upper Benson cemetery. He married Elisabeth about 1851 in Germany. She was born 17 Dec 1829 in Hessen, Germany and died 12 Feb 1906 and is also buried in Upper Benson cemetery. They had the following children:

1.1. Henry Politsch was born May 1852 in Hessen, Germany
1.2. Lewis Politsch was born Feb 1855 in NY
1.3. George Politsch was born Sep 1857 or 1858 in NY. He married Ophelia Anibal about 1885. She was the daughter of Cyrus Anibal.
1.4. Ludwig E. Politsch ("Lute") was born 4 Aug 1860? in NY and died 25 Dec 1886? He is buried in Upper Benson cemetery.
Elisabeth Politsch ("Libbie") was born May 1869 in NY.

They immigrated in 1854 arriving in NYC on 11 Jan 1854 on the ship Susan E. Howell from Le Havre, France. The listing is as follows:

Politsch, Gustave, 54, Prussian
Politsch, Wilhelmine, 27, Prussian
Politsch, Louis, 26, Prussian
Politsch, Elisabeth, 24, Prussian
Politsch, Henri, 11 months, Prussian

Note that not exact, the record is quite close. Henry's month of birth does not match with the 1900 census record, however, Gustave was also found in Benson in the 1870 census records and is also buried in Upper Benson cemetery. Louis listed here must be Ludwig with his wife Elisabeth and son Henry. It is also interesting to note that the Cramer family of Benson is listed next in the ship list. Perhaps there is a connection between these two families.
